Hearing the younger man boast of his drinking prowess the old man bets him everything he has that he can drink 4 mugs of beer before the younger man can drink 2 and a shot. The old man says that there are only 2 rules to "keep it fair." first, the young man must drink his shot last and second no one can touch or move any glass that isn't their own.
